Domaine Chandon
de Briailles, Burgundy, France
2005 Pernard Vergelesse “lle de Vergelesse”
1er Cru
$98/bottle
A classy, pure, refined and ultra elegant nose of crushed
red pinot, raspberry and subtle earth notes complements
the focused, spicy and intense medium full flavors blessed
with laser-like precision on the textured, cool and penetrating
finale. This is an exercise in understatement and harmony.
In short, a terrific effort built for the long haul.

2004 Proprietary Red $190/bottle
The black/ruby/purple-hued 2004 Proprietary Red (80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc,
3% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec) offers up a big, sweet nose of black raspberries, charred wood, incense,
and smoky, barbecued, meaty notes. It does not have the depth of the 2003 or 2002, but it is a rich, potentially
outstanding effort to enjoy over the next 10-15 years.

2005 Les Cailloux Chateauneuf du Pape $338/bottle
The 2005 Les Cailloux Chateauneuf du Pape is a ripe, heady
wine, dense ruby-colored, with plenty of garrigue, pepper,
and kirsch notes intermixed with plenty of earthy undertones
and underbrush. The wine is tannic, medium to full-bodied,
and will probably benefit from 1-3 years of bottle age and
keep for 12-15 years.
